Almost 30% of agricultural land in the world is vain, and food in the form of waste produced more greenhouse gases than any country except China and the United States. UN experts have warned that food waste pose a danger to the planet’s climate and are advised to encourage users in developed countries to buy only the products and be practical in using left-over food.

In industrialized countries, much of the waste is formed due to consumers who buy too much and throw out what they do not eat. In developing countries, it is largely the result of inefficient agriculture and lack of proper food storage conditions.
The entire volume of the wasted food in the developed countries is approximately equal to the volume of food products from the countries of sub-Saharan Africa and are respectively 222 and 230 million tons. That means that the volume of the food wasted by the rich countries could feed much of the African continent.

In the latest report to the UN Agency’s food, they counted (in the period from 2011 to 2013 year) that 842 million people suffer from chronic hunger, and that is 12 per cent of the world’s population, or one in eight people.
We remind that according to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) nearly half a billion hungry people live in Asia, 265 million in Africa, 42 million in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as 15 million in the developed countries.
The most hungry people are in the Congo, about 75% of the population. The next is Latin America, with Haiti as the leader, where 58% of the population is starving.
“We must urgently develop and put into practice the world food security program, which envisage the reallocation of agricultural products in developed countries, to be able to feed a rapidly growing world population, which by 2050 will reach 9 billion and 100 million people,” concluded Dr Jacques Diouf, Director General of the FAO.
The Un Experts note that by 2050, the situation could deteriorate significantly, because the expected population growth will require an increase of food production at 60%. To reduce food losses, the experts recommend to abandon the excessive food production.
