Malala Yousafzai is an activist for the Pakistani women rights born July 12, 1997 in Mingora, in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. She lived in Mingora, the main town in the Swat valley in northwest Pakistan, a close Taliban influence area. A symbol of the struggle for the education of girls and against the Taliban, she received several Pakistani and international awards following her stance while the region was the object of a struggle between the Pakistani Taliban and the army.

October 9, 2012, she suffered an assassination attempt where she was seriously wounded, the attack condemned by the entire political class. She was transferred to hospital in Birmingham in the UK on October 15 to attend a further processing. This attack was strongly condemned in Pakistan and led to international media coverage in Malala. In 2013, she was the youngest person nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize won by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

Malala Yousafzai became known to the general public in early 2009, at age 11, by her testimony entitled Diary of a Pakistani schoolgirl on a BBC Urdu blog. Under the pseudonym of Gul Makai, she denounces the violence of the Taliban after taking control of the Swat Valley in 2007, burning down schools for girls and murdering their opponents. She appeared in tears in her video and said she wanted to become a doctor. During the Taliban occupation, her family left the area and separated.
